What does WOD mean, AMRAP, EMOM and all the other weird CrossFit terms mean?

Unlike traditional cardio, strength and conditioning classes where you just go in and do your thing…

There are A TON of words and acronyms used by coaches when teaching CrossFit.

So, I have decided to put a list together of the most common terms that you are likely to hear when you come a long to do my WOD * CrossFit Virtual class, and what they mean so that you feel ready to CRUSH your training.

Here are the most common terms you are likely to hear over the upcoming month during your sessions with me…

WOD – Workout Of The Day** That’s it! You might see the words underlined on a whiteboard in a CF Box followed by the workout for that day.

AMRAP - This can mean two things. ‘As Many Rounds Or Possible’ Or ‘Reps As Possible’. If you are doing a circuit of exercises you need to do as many circuits in the allotted time.

For Instance

AMRAP in 10 minutes of 8 Air Squats 3KB Swings 2 Burpees
If doing AMRAP for reps in 1 minute OF Air Squats. Complete as many repetitions of air squats as you can in 1 minute.

EMOM – Every Minute On The Minute. This is a type of workout where you complete a specific exercise or number of exercises every time a new minute starts. If you finish the set/exercise before the minute ends you get to rest for the remaining time of the minute. Don’t get too comfortable though!

For Time – You complete a challenge, no matter how long it takes (unless there is a time cap haha) and record the time completed.

Example – Do 100x Air Squats, 25x Star Jumps, 30 Burpees and record the time, that’s it!

PR – Personal Record. If you beat your latest time or weight that is a PR.

Set – This is a given number of number of reps. For instance 4 x 12 Reps. To do 12 Reps 4 times and rest in between.

Reps – This is the number of repetitions that need to be completed in each set. For instance 4 Sets of 12 Reps. You must complete 12 reps before you finish the full set.

Well, there you have it!

I’ll be updating the terms as we progress through the classes. But, because there are soooo many I don’t want to throw too many at you all at once.

The first WOD class will be hosted today via the Zoom App at 5.30PM.

It’s also on at Saturday at 10AM.
